A flying start
Get your day off to a flying start at Eagles Flying, the birds of prey centre, beside the wonderful Temple House near Ballymote. The 11am bird show lasts for an hour and it is a wonderful experience for young and old with eagles, hawks, falcons, vultures and owls swooping right over your head. Some of them, including an owl, can be patted which is a huge thrill for the Harry Potter fans! Don’t worry if it’s raining as they have an indoor display area too. They’ve thought of everything! There’s a special family rate of €35.90 for 2 adults and 2 children so it won’t break the bank either.
Worked up an appetite?
All that interaction with birds of prey and other animals will mean you’ve worked up an appetite. Just down the road, The Coach House Hotel in Ballymote. Try something different for lunch – Goat’s cheese burger on toasted brioche with red onion relish and rocket perhaps? From traditional favourites with a twist, to indulgent cuisine that make your heart sing!
Stretch the legs
Time for action again and you couldn’t be in a better place for a walk than around the lovely town park of Ballymote. The playground and mini train ensures everyone will be entertained. It’s overlooked by the imposing Ballymote Castle which dates back to the 1300s. With walls that are a remarkable 9 feet thick, this castle was certainly built to stand the test of time.
